Employment & the economy
Understanding how the economy is functioning is a key driver for reducing inequalities and improving overall standards of living. Meanwhile, our experiences across their working lives and beyond can have a huge effect on our wellbeing.
At ADR England, significant research programmes are exploring how the labour market and wider economics are working. This includes our work with the University of the West of England on the Wage and Employment Dynamics (WED) data linkage project. WED aims to provide rich and novel insights into the dynamics of earnings and employment in Great Britain. This project brings together anonymised data from the Annual Survey of House and Earnings (ASHE) with data from the Census, Migrant Workers Scan, and HM Revenue & Customs PAYE and Self-Assessment data.
Research using these datasets is improving understanding of key policy challenges, such as in-work poverty, the UK Gender Pay Gap, and the impact of the National Minimum Wage. The creation of these linked datasets will bypass limitations created by solely analysing survey data, or the datasets individually, thereby enabling researchers to broaden their scope and understanding of the labour market in Britain.
