This Data Insight explores how young workers are matched to firms across local labour markets in England, using the Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) dataset. We focus on differences in ‘positive assortative matching’ – the extent to which high-skilled workers are matched to high-quality firms – which is assumed to increase productivity in many standard economic models.
This Data Insight explores the relationship between school absenteeism and subsequent patterns of criminal activity. It addresses the question ‘What are the long-term effects of school absenteeism on crime at different stages of life?’ Specifically, it examines whether authorised and unauthorised absences are associated with future cautions and convictions.

This Data Insight by Dr Anna Leyland summarises findings from working with the Ministry of Justice & Department for Education linked dataset - England. Using data from the National Pupil Database and the Police National Computer, the research analyses the likelihood of receiving a custodial sentence by 2020 for children who were referred to or received an intervention from child welfare services from ages 5-18.
This study was summarised by Sara Duru during her eight-week internship at ADR UK, with input and feedback from the Education and Child Health Insights from Linked Data (ECHILD) team who produced the original research. It looks at academic outcomes and special education needs across gestational age, for children born with and without chronic health conditions (e.g. long-term conditions affecting the brain, lungs, or heart).
